The purposeful application of information in the design, production, and utilization of goods and services, and in the organization of human activities.
Technology can be described in the following ways:
Tangible: blueprints, models, operating manuals, prototypes.
Intangible: consultancy, problem-solving, and training methods.
High: entirely or almost entirely automated and intelligent technology that manipulates ever finer matter and ever powerful forces.
Intermediate: semiautomated partially intelligent technology that manipulates refined matter and medium level forces.
Low: labor-intensive technology that manipulates only coarse or gross matter and weaker forces.
Technology is important in today’s world because it serves a variety of functions in many of the most important aspects of modern society, like education, communication, business and scientific progress. During the past few decades, in particular, computers have become, such an integral part of society that technology has become a relied-on tool for most people.
Technology, especially in the form of computers, is very important to the education system, both in terms of supporting educational matters as well as enhancing the learning process of the students. With computers, students can do research much more efficiently, and some have suggested that this actually leads to better student performance, especially in the science subjects.
With technology, teachers can also do their jobs better. Teachers can make their lessons more interactive, therefore bettering the learning experience for the students. Teachers now can use the Internet, having access to many more resources than they had in the past, and since most of the resources don’t cost any money at all, it avoids any financial burden that would otherwise be placed on the school’s financing.
Technology has also become a great way to improve communication and computation, especially in the business world. Now, routine tasks, administrative functions and tedious oversight responsibilities can be handled through programmed computer systems, relieving a huge burden on companies that are strained for time and personnel.
